I am an AssistU-trained VA. AssistU is the Harvard equivalent for virtual assistance training.
AssistU defines virtual assistance as the following:
“VAs are microbusiness owners who provide administrative and possibly personal support while working in long-term collaborative relationships with only a handful of terrific clients. Using current and emerging technologies, VAs support their clients’ needs, across the board, without ever having to step foot inside the client’s offices.”
I just can’t create a better set of FAQs than what AssistU has. AssistU has a great FAQ for people who are looking at Virtual Assistance. While this list is very comprehensive, I highly recommend you review at least the first two entries:

Client Services:
The services that AssistU virtual assistants provide can be summarized into two categories: The tasks of today and the goals of tomorrow.
While I’m not averse to doing the daily work, I excel at business operations. If you are looking for a long-term partner who can help you grow your business, let’s chat!
Tracking time:
I use TimeTrax to track the time I spend on each client’s business. You will receive a weekly update on the time used.
Payment:
Clients process their payment through the Intuit Payment Network. It’s very simple and easy to use for all parties.
